From start to finish, Miles Fence Co. was great to work with. We are very pleased with the installation .. the guys worked hard and knew exactly what they were doing. I think the best thing about the process was working with Diane in the office. She communicated on a regular basis and was always available to answer questions. She’s the best!!

Very satisfied with my fence. The installers did a good job. It was a little uneven but the crew listened to us and fixed it before finishing up.

Miles Fence Company was professional from start to finish of our project. They listened to what we wanted, provided plenty of sample colors and textures for us to pick from. We chose composite material for the fence and aluminum for the gates. Miles Fence Co answered all questions and asked questions to make sure we were all on the same page. Prior to installation, the team doing the install, went over the plans with us to make sure they understood the project. The final product is great. Excellent communication before, during and after installation. Definitely would recommend Miles Fence Company for your next project.

Miles Fence is professional, timely and communicate wonderfully which are difficult qualities to find these days. They communicate effectively about your order, when it’s delivered and installation. Our installation was done in an extremely timely manner, which was imperative with three dogs. They took our old fence down and installed our new fence within a day. No debris or trash left behind. After a few months, we can confidently say we love our new fence! Not only is it gorgeous, it keeps our furry family members safely in our yard. I highly recommend Miles Fence!

What does a residential fence cost in Louisville?

Most residential fence projects in the Louisville area run between $12 and $80 per linear foot installed. The range depends on material, height, how many gates you need, and what the site is like. A typical 200-foot backyard runs $2,400 to $16,000.

Fence typePer linear foot, installedTypical 200 ft projectBest for

Installed prices. Where you land in each range depends on grade, access, gate count and whether an old fence has to come out.

What changes the price

  • How much fence you need — first and foremost, total footage drives the price
  • Slope and grade — a hillside costs more than a flat yard
  • Rock — eastern Jefferson County has plenty of it, and it slows post holes down
  • Whether posts are set in the ground, surface mounted, or mounted on concrete
  • Customizations — decorative tops, mixed materials, anything built to order
  • How many gates, how wide, and whether any of them are driveway gates
  • Tearing out and hauling away an existing fence
  • Whether equipment can get into the backyard
  • Height, and whether you want a top board or cap

Common questions

How much does a privacy fence cost in Louisville?

Treated pine runs $15 to $30 per linear foot installed. Cedar runs $20 to $30. For a typical 200-foot backyard that works out to $3,000 to $6,000 in treated pine, or $4,000 to $6,000 in cedar. Where you land depends on how much fence you need, plus height, grade, gate count and whether an old fence has to come out.

Do I need a permit to build a fence in Louisville?

Most residential fences do not need permits in Louisville, Kentucky. Our team will always ensure your fence complies with local regulations and work with you to obtain the necessary permits.

Some HOAs do require an architectural committee approval before work can begin. Make sure that you check with your HOA first.

Wood or vinyl — which holds up better in Louisville?

Both work here. Wood costs less upfront and can be stained any color, but needs resealing every few years to handle our wet springs. Vinyl costs more at the start, never needs staining, and will not rot — but your color options are limited and a damaged panel is harder to patch than a board.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, through Wisetack. You can prequalify in about a minute with a soft credit check that does not affect your credit score, for up to $65,000 over 3 to 120 months at 0–35.9% APR.

How long does a fence installation take?

Most fences go up in one to two days. We schedule the install around you, and if weather or ground conditions change the timeline we tell you.

Will you take away my old fence?

Yes, that is included in your initial walk-through conversation and always a part of your estimate.

Do you call in the utility locate before digging?

[Confirm. Kentucky 811 is free and required before excavation — if Miles handles the call, say so plainly. Schmidt advertises this and it reassures homeowners.]

What warranty do you offer?

Call us up to a year after your install and we will come back and fix anything quickly.

How far out are you booking?

[Confirm current lead time. Homeowners ask this first when comparing quotes.]

What areas do you serve?

We are based on S English Station Road in eastern Jefferson County and install across the Louisville metro.

Closest to us: Jeffersontown, Middletown, Douglass Hills, Hurstbourne, Fisherville, Anchorage, Lyndon and Eastwood.

Also serving: St. Matthews, Prospect, Fern Creek, Crestwood, Simpsonville, Shelbyville, La Grange, Mount Washington, Highview and Okolona, plus Oldham, Bullitt, Shelby and Spencer counties.
